Breakups to Makeup is the brainchild of accomplished makeup artist and professional educator Angelique Velez, whose knack for applying makeup turned into a passion and creative outlet. Her most life-altering decisions and impactful experiences culminate in this one artistic campaign intended to spread the message that makeup is far more than just mere face paint.
“As makeup artists, makeup is our form of art. It is our outlet and our release. No matter what we are going through in life it is the reason why we get out of bed. Makeup is a true form of art that let’s us not only express ourselves, but also makes others happy,” says Breakups to Makeup founder Angelique Velez.
“Personally, going through difficult times in my own life (ahem, a breakup), makeup literally saved me and served as my outlet to devote my time and energy. Many people don't understand that makeup to us is not "just" a product, but our creative outlet. I wanted to spread this message in a quirky way, hence the birth of B2M.”
As Director of Education and Artistry for The Makeup Show and The Powder Group, James Vincent is fortunate enough to work with makeup lines and makeup artists at all levels of the industry. Over the years James’ passion for the art of makeup encompasses nearly every genre of makeup artistry. From film and theatre, to television and celebrity work, editorial and runway work. James’ expertise also includes training and product development positions and guest artist spots for such companies as MAC, YSL, Sephora, Tom Ford Beauty, Ardency Inn, Make Up For Ever and recently Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty with Kendo Brands.
James now focuses his career on working internationally in fashion, editorial and artistry development. In fashion James has collaborated with diverse designers such as Ashton Michael, Charlotte Ronson and Chris Habana as has seen him as key artist for fashion shows in every major fashion city. James’ work in the music industry spans genres with such legendary musicians as Lady Gaga, Florence and the Machine, Courtney Love, Amy Winehouse, Joan Jett and The Foo Fighters. Nick Lujan is a New York based professional makeup artist, team leader, trainer and educator with over 15 years of experience in the industry. He is widely recognized for his unique approach to coaching & developing artistry in others, and his artistic ability to flex and blend styles within the beauty, editorial, creative and fx worlds.
As a trained makeup artist and educator, Nick has worked with major cosmetics brands, providing insight encompassing team development, artistry, product development, artist relations and creation and facilitation of educational programs.
With his extensive experience in the Cosmetics Industry, Nick also works with, marketing, public relations and creative teams, to create brand campaign visuals, develop content for social use, educate Pro’s/Influencers, conduct editor facing desk-sides, consult on beauty editor stories, facilitate makeup seminars, and is an on-camera talent.

Jake Aebly is a New York based makeup, hair, and sfx artist. Jake currently works as Retail Operations Manager for the New York staple Alcone Company, in addition to freelancing in print, commercial, TV/film, event & fashion. He has worked with major national brands and networks including Verizon, Pepsi, Dove, Disney, CBS and Nickelodeon, and his work has been featured in multiple publications including the Wall Street Journal, Collective Magazine, Lucy Magazine, Vice and Vogue Italia. Due to his years with Alcone and his abundant curiosity about new products and innovations, he is a self proclaimed product junkie and organization freak!
Steph Vazquez has been a professional Make Up Artist for over 20 years and has done everything you could possibly do as a Make Up Artist. Her career started in Victoria’s Secret Beauty, where she was on the Opening Stores Team and worked the notorious Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. From there she was recruited to work at Sephora in NYC as the Color Specialist for the next 5 years and managed a team of over 90 associates. Moving up within her career she was then recruited to Smashbox Cosmetics serving as their Regional Training Executive for the East. Steph traveled to different retailers such as Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom and Macys training their employees on product knowledge, artistry and technique. She herself has been trained by some of the best Make Up Artists in the industry such as Charlie Green, Lori Taylor Davis, Steven Aturo, James Vincent, and Geoffrey Rodriguez. Steph is well traveled and loves adventure. Her love for cosmetics started when she was 13 and would watch her older sister do her own. Makeup always made her feel better behind her thick glasses and blemishes and does make up to make women feel good. As a Make Up Artist she sees beauty in everyone and shares this enthusiasm with anyone that sits in front of her. Steph felt that there was a need for a different kind of Make Up School in the world (well specifically NJ) today. Her mission is to eliminate the intimidation of doing yourself or someone else’s make up and strives to make Make Up Application approachable for everyone. She started Beauty Schooled in 2018 hoping to change the Beauty Industry forever. She has worked with many photographers including Davis Factor, Steven Khan and Brian Silak. She has participated in NY and LA Fashion Weeks and worked on many projects from Goga’s Fashion Show as Lead Artist for Project Runway, to Wyclef Jean’s Music Video “Down Easy.” Steph has worked for networks such as ABC and Bravo and currently works for the MLB Network, to editorials for Conde Nast and photo shoots for the Sam Brocato Salon in Soho, NYC. She has worked Awards Shows such as the MTV VMA’s and has been published and featured in many magazines and blogs such as Real Simple, Allure and NYCSplash.com.
